DIY Kitchen & Dinning Room

we decided to take out the walls in our kitchen and dinning room, open up our space, and replace the flooring in our kitchen and dinning room.

This was no easy task with four children running around at the time either and Roman (our youngest) had just began walking at the start of this project too.

Needless to say, it took us a good year to decide on if we wanted to either leave the wood natural, stain them dark or paint them white.

Our house because it lacks a lot of natural light, we have used a very light and muted pallet. So there is lots of whites, creams and grays. I knew right off the bat that I didn't want to paint the new beams white.

My beautiful coffee nook. <3 <3 <3

Instead, I decided since a lot of our decor is rustic and farmhouse, that I would incorporate that dark stained look more into our home. Our farm house table is already stained a dark oak color, I decided that I would stain the beams that color as well.

This was my test, I know, you're supposed to do this on scrap wood, but I honestly didn't have many left. I try to use up everything, so whatever extra we had left from this project I used in other projects in the house (I made some cute shelvs for our guest bathroom).

I was a bit more heavy handed applying the stain to the top, I am super pregnant right now and it's hard for me to stand on the stool with my arms over my head for very long without getting dizzy. :(

I need to go in with a small paint brush and get those edges on the bottom, but I used an old worn out t-shirt to apply the stain. I do need to go back and apply a second coat but I'm going to wait until I've finshed staing all the wood. But as of right now, this is one of many projects I'm working on.

With the warm weather, are there any DIY home projects that you are working on? Tag me on instagram @natashanesta, I would love to see!
